10 Questions about SEO taken from AnswerThePublic

Below you will find 10 questions about SEO taken from the AnswerThePublic website, if you would like to increase the relevancy of your website simply do a blog post with an x amount of questions on your niche market every so often and you will automatically increase the relevancy of your website.

1) Which SEO tool is best?

While there are many wonderful SEO tools out there I think today’s credit should be given to AnswerThePublic. The free SEO tools I like second best are the Yoast SEO Plugin for WP, All-in-One SEO Plugin, Soovle.com, Hunter.io and others which I will reveal in future postings.

2) Why is SEO important for Small Business?

SEO is important for small business because it is the most cost effective way of obtaining leads. While there are other options such as social media marketing and pay per click (PPC) the total cost of SEO is much lower and the leads that land on your website are much more targeted and will thus convert into sales more easily.

3) When did SEO start?

SEO is as old as websites and search engines itself. I remember back in the days when AltaVista was a major player (Google incorporated in 1998) the only thing you had to do to rank well was optimize the meta tags and add a bunch of keywords to your web pages. Ever since the beginning search engine optimization has evolved and currently there are hundreds of different ranking factors. Additionally frequent search engine algorithm updates cause changes in the SERPs. While it is often possible to protect your website from falling after an algorithm update by building solid organic backlinks, it requires constant effort to stay on top of the result pages.

4) Can SEO be automated?

Partly. If you are using a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, you are able to install SEO plugins such as Yoast given that you have a premium account or a self-hosted solution. Free SEO plugins like Yoast will automate a lot of the work for you, however, original content is extremely important too and you will have to create this yourself. If you want to rank well in search engines all your content has to be original, so whether you place text, images, videos or audio on your site, do not copy it from others if you want to rank well.

5) SEO where to start?

The easiest way to start with SEO is if you are just starting out with a new website because you still have full control over the structure. In order for a page to rank well your website must be clearly defined, meaning it must have appropriate categories, and preferably you should focus on one topic which a called a niche market. The more specialized your website is on a certain topic, the better it will rank in the search engines. So first thing to do is to get the structure right, and second is to learn about things such as keyword density and link building. There are plenty of SEO for beginners tutorials that will guide you through the entire process. And if you follow me here on WordPress I will be updating you on free SEO tools and providing you with free tips and tricks.

6) What SEO keywords to use

What SEO keywords to use depends on a variety of factors. Before deciding on keywords you want to do some keyword research in order to see whether or not the keywords you want to target have a lot of search volume, to see if there are a lot of strong competitors that are trying to rank for the same keyword, and to get an idea of how much work it will take to get where you want to be. If you plan on creating a new website you will start by selecting a niche market. You want to choose a niche market that will make you some money which you enjoy writing about, because if daily writing feels like a job or a punishment you will not likely keep up with it and the chance of succeeding is limited. Some popular niche markets you could consider are: pets, languages, prepping, dating, relationships, home security, personal finance, babies, weight loss, electronic gadgets, cellphones, cameras etc. etc.

7) Who does SEO?

Anybody can do SEO, but if you are looking for outstanding results than its a good idea to consult with an SEO consultant. The SEO consultant will provide you with a website audit and tells you the changes that need to be applied. There are plenty of good SEO experts out there, but I always recommend to inform yourself before you make the decision to purchase an SEO package somewhere. Unfortunately there are less scrupulous people out there who will sell you on the so called “secret formula” which unfortunately doesn’t exist. SEO is more of a science than an art and it requires hard work mostly spend on website restructuring, original content creation and link building. Transparency is key when working on SEO so the client understands what is being done and the amount of work and time that goes into it.

8) Will SEO exist in 5 years?

Yes, SEO will always be around because there will always be people that have problems structuring a website, or those who are unable to clearly write down their thoughts in a way that the search engines can tell from keywords in the title and in the first paragraph what is being said and what the purpose is of the content. Additional there will always be technical issues that are not understood by the layman. You can be a great writer, but if you sell “Blue Widgets”and you only talk about your company and forget to mention the widgets on most of your pages than you will never rank on top. So it’s a fact that while everyone can learn how to practice SEO, it is also a fact that there are always people who have little experience and make a lot of mistakes. If you want to become more informed you can check out Google’s best practices SEO guide, and if you still need help you can consult an SEO expert who can help you audit your pages.

9) How SEO and PPC work together

Search engine optimization (SEO) and pay-per-click (PPC) are two different concepts. Some companies choose to use SEO and PPC simultaneously in order to boost their amount of leads. It has been found that people who visit your website by finding it in the top rankings, are more likely to convert in loyal customers if they are later reminded of your site by serving them a PCC ad.

10) Are SEO companies worth it

If you are a small company selling website subscriptions or products that are purchased over the internet than optimizing your website will most certainly increase the amount of leads and consequently augment sales volume. In this case it would definitely be worth it to invest in a month-to-month SEO campaign. Usually you will start seeing results in about 3 months. If on the other hand you are a casual blogger and you are not making serious money nor do you plan on generating income by selling products on your site than you may feel it’s a lot of money for extra traffic.

  1. The basics of SEO have been the same for over 20 years so I doubt there will be a lot of change. SEO is all about structure, keywords and links, maybe SEO will become less technical in that you don’t have to pay as much attention to thing like image size, loading time, meta tags and URL slugs as this can be automated, but you will still have to watch how you use your keywords in content and produce original content to get noticed. On the other hand we are looking at more use of artificial intelligence which allows search engines to provide more customized results, and which allows indexing of text and visuals in videos and audios. So yes, there will be changes, but what they will look like exactly nobody knows.

  2. Hi! I’ve always wondered how SEO works. I know very little to nothing about it at the moment, is it something I could pick up easily and if so what is the best way to learn? Does it work for blogs as well as websites? I might have a play around with it next week if so

  3. Hi there, thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment. There is a lot you can learn about SEO but as long as you stick to the basics you should be OK. I visited your blog which is already well focused on a single topic, this helps your SEO score. What you want to do next is get a site audit to see which points need improvement. There are a few free services that offer free audits so you will get an idea of how things are looking. Woorank will provide you with some basic information and you also want to read Google’s SEO starter Guide which you can find at https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7451184?hl=en . Once everything looks alright you want to focus on guest posts, they are a great way of obtaining quality backlinks, just make sure to focus on content related websites. Making comments on blogs will also help, especially comments that provoke lengthy replies like this one as they indicate greater relevancy, I somehow have the feeling that you knew this already πŸ˜‰ Anyways, thanks for stopping by, if you have more questions about SEO don’t be a stranger. Good luck with your blog!
